My holiday diary now done, Monday 9th September saw me at Knole in Kent meeting up with an old work colleague.
The house is not homely, it is more like a massive art gallery. I have never seen so many paintings or Tudor furniture in one place before. This the main staircase and I rather liked it. Outside there are many acres of deer park to wander in.
PS I forgot to say when I posted this that the painted wall is one of only two surviving Renaissance wall paintings of this kind. It was painted in 1603 and mostly the oil on plaster design deteriorates and the paintings are lost, but this one has survived and so is rather special.
We were there start of Sept. Littlest (12yrs old) was traumatised by how many nudes there were in the paintings!!! I really liked the house and the grounds.
Marvelous photo, Casa! So much to see and admire! Is that a cat atop the newel post? All so lovely and fascinating! Thanks for sharing some info about this place you were privileged to visit!
Impressive decor but a bit fussy for my house I guess
