Wonder where the name comes from? Fast and "Loose" when the tall spikes are waving in a summer breeze? The "Strife" is o'er as our summer is coming to an end as evidenced all over my yard in the changing plants? Even the greens are different right now. Wherever it came from this is one of my favorite plants. It is hardy and blooms happily all season.
beautiful colours and light - apparently it's from the Latin name - which comes from the name of a king of Sicily and roughly translates as loosening battle
It's a lovely flower, but is being torn out with a vengeance in my area. It's very invasive and chokes out native plants along roadsides and riverbanks. It's no longer being sold in garden centers.
I've never understood why loosestrife is labeled as an invasive plant here. . .I love it, too! Isn't it a wonder how our yards are changing? It seems like it happened way too soon!

Always sad when summer is over, but autumn is a fun season for photography too.
