Zagreb has a medieval upper-town center, full of beautiful sites, legends and stories. This is the eastern entrance to upper-town of Zagreb, built in 1266, and it is the only remaining city gate. There is a little shrine inside dedicated to Mother of God where people come to thank her for the good things in their lives. Mother of God of Stone Gate is also a protector of city of Zagreb. The painting of Mother Mary was hanging on the inside walls of this gate, and after the huge fire in 1731. the artwork miraculously survived, sitting intact in the ashes. So this Stone gate means a lot to us locals. I will try to take a photo of it one day, but it feels uncomfortable to me to take photo of an oltar while people pray, and there is always somebody praying, before they go to work, during the day, in the evening...
