Ruffled Feathers by cjwhite

Ruffled Feathers

The woodpeckers and I have been playing a game of hide and seek for awhile now. The woodpeckers have always won until today! I spied this male Downy Woodpecker resting in a tree. It's sunny today. but breezy. When I first saw him, I wasn"t very close. I snapped pictures and kept getting a little closer. I have a point and shoot and I have a habit of holding my breath to steady my shot. By the time he flew away, I was a little winded. LOL The Downy Woodpecker is the smallest and one of the most widespread woodpeckers in North America. They can be found coast to caost in the states.
Really a nice capture! Love the speckles. Thanks for sharing!

These birds have always fascinated me - we don't have them in Australia (well not that I know of) and they remind of the Woody woodpecker cartoons. Lovely photo.

@murnane Thank you Marg! They climb straight up the trees and all around the branches. They are really fun to watch.

I'm with Marg (@murnane ) great Woody Woodpecker shot, love the roughness of the bark and the soft downyness of the feathers.
