This Common Banded Skipper butterfly was enjoying the Red Clover today. Red Clover is also called honeysuckle clover because it has such sweet nectar. The flowers, stems, and leaves are edible. I haven't tried it myself.
The cicadas have taken over! They are everywhere! If you have ever seen Stephen King's, The Langoliers, the sound that is coming from the woods makes me think of that movie! The sound is a strange whirring that echos. It's a little creepy. They are supposed to be here for six weeks, so I guess I should get used to it. :0)
Great capture, Carolyn. Nice that it landed on such a pretty flower. Love the sound of cicadas; it always makes it feel like proper summer when they come. (By the way, if you want to make a tag for the butterfly's name, you need to enclose all the words in quotes, as in "common banded skipper butterfly". That way the words won't separate like they have.)
I had one cicada a couple of years ago. None since. I have seen or heard them in the thousands when they all are located in a grove of trees. I don't think I would want to live nearby.
butterfly , everything in this pic.
Interesting post. Cool...
