I've wanted to get a pic of these beautiful flowers for awhile now. To get the shot. I had to talk my youngest daughter into dropping me off on the street, so I could walk about a block to get there. You can't park anywhere near it, unless you live there. My mother and daughter parked on a side street while I took pics. I think they thought I took a few too many! Little do they know, how many I usually take! LOL!
I thought these were water lilies, until I looked them up in my wildflower book. They are Water Chinquapin, American Lotus. I love them! They make a less than attractive waterway look beautiful. The other side of the bridge doesn't have any flowers and looks swampy.
While I was taking pics, a homeless, or maybe just down on his luck, man walked by me. In my head, I was thinking that robin@ robinwarner would asked to take his pic. But.....big chicken me just couldn't do it. I did say hello to him and he responded. Maybe next time! :0)
Thank you for viewing and commenting on my pics!!! :0)
Oh wow - this was worth the walk Carolyn. ARen't you diligent in looking up the name of the flower. I know what you mean about photographing strangers. I've done a couple of sneaky shots over the time, but I've never published them. Just chicken I guess LOL
Nice shot Carolyn , they are like a fancy carpet covering the water ! and yes I had a gorgeous shot of a Butterfly sitting on a young girls face from the Butterfly house the day we spent [with Robin @girlie] but not knowing the child I thought it best not to put up!
Really beautiful landscape and water flowers! Lucky for you that you can be dropped off...there are a few places I have on my list that I can't really get to either. Sounds like that guy might have said yes....maybe next time. :-)
@cjwhite Carolyn, that is amazing. As I look closer I cansee the water all the way at the other end. Lotus should have been the key, but I am not a flower person, and it did not send the message, Lotus / Water :)
a gorgeous array of water plants! We have similar aquatic plants that clump together in waterways near our house but the council seems to think the creek looks better without them and keeps removing them. Afterwards, all that's left is muddy, sloppy water and tyre tracks from their trucks. I much prefer the view that you have!
'"Courage", he said, and pointed toward the land ... '
I have never seeen a lotus flower and am always reminded of Tennyson's epic poem when I see the word. Thank you for proving that they exist, and now ....
'... O rest ye, brother mariners, I will not wander more'.
This is really pretty--I love water flowers as well. In fact, I just bought a water hyacinth yesterday and have been scouring the internet on how to grow it!
Wow! The flowers have taken over. This is beautiful. You can see the water at all. I don't know the difference between lotus and water lilies. Maybe I better check before I post any more.
Well worth the effort! Beautiful scene! The lotus flowers are so pretty, and I really like the sky too! Looks like a perfect day, weather-wise. Go for the robinwarner shot next time! ;-)
Wow, in TN! Who'da thought?? Thanks for making the effort and sharing!
You know, I think he probably would have been thrilled to be able to contribute to your day with his portrait! OK, because i'm a devil's advocate, I challenge you to ask to take a pic of an interesting-looking stranger this week!! (I'd do it too, but my camera's dead, sadly!) Can't wait to see your pic! ha ha!
