It took me awhile to decide whether to post this one. I know a lot of people aren't fond of spiders. I'm not either, but I actually saw the spider grab the poor grasshopper and start wrapping him. I had to try to get a pic. I really think the spider was as scared of me and my camera as I was of him! I know they aren't venomous, but it was huge!!!
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful comments and faves for my recent pics!!! I hope my spider doesn't scare you away! :0)
Those garden orb weavers are soooo cool. I am totally in favor of anything that eats grasshoppers. Plus, the spider mummifies the grasshopper then liquifies and drinks it . At our school we call that a spider "juice box".
I LOVE sitting still in a garden or field and just letting nature happen around you. You catch SO MANY good things though! You must be a "nature whisperer." I love this pic...scary and gross, but awesome!
I see what you mean about thinking alike. lol Great shot. I was going back out to see how things are going soon hopefully this time I wont bump into the snake that was out there before.
EWWWW...I hate spiders but I couldn't take my eyes off your photo. Great close up but oh so icky. Is icky really a word a grown up woman like me should use? Good job!
Fantastic capture, Carolyn. While spiders aren't my favourite insects I do admire their technique in the food-gathering area. This is a great shot; I love the way you can see the detail of the poor grasshopper inside that web. Fav for me.
;o)
You can see all the hairs on it's legs, and it's so big! Fantastic shot though.
