Brambles in the hedgerows and verges, ripening but not quite ready for picking. For me they are a little too close to the road, too many car fumes, but good for birds and field mice ..caught near Westerdale yesterday.

I think that it will be a good year. My friend already has many ripened and I have lots but not ready just up the road. Like you I avoid the roadsides.
Yes, I've noticed a few black ones already. Up in the North East, we used to call the October half term holiday Blackberry Week! The blackberries seem to ripen earlier every year
We used to go blackberry picking when I was a child until I bit into one and discovered a maggot, never picked any variety of wild fruit since then, ha ha.
