The road sides are awash with snow white Cherry Plum blossoms (prunus cerasifera), so cheerful and so welcome in the washed out hedgerows and grey winter colours. Today as you can see the weather is grey wet and miserable with temps of only 5C
Nicer on black
This variety is a 16th century introduction from Western Asia which is now naturalised in hedgerows, scrub and woodland. It flowers in February, it’s taller and more thinly spread than those of the later flowering blackthorn..
It often cross pollinates with the common blackthorn But the pure line Cherry Plum at the start and pure line Blackthorn at the end covers a flowering season from late January to mid April.
Thank you for all your lovely comments and favs all are appreciated and welcome.
