An old fishing village pearched at the foot of the cliffs between Staithes and Sandsend. Dating back before the 1680s when in 1682 a landslide destroyed the entire village with the exception of just one cottage. No-one was hurt thankfully as the villagers were alerted by two mourners at a wake who realized what was about to happen!!.
The sea wall defenses were completed in 1970 and now the village is not as vulnerable as it used to be.
It's such a pretty village with tiny winding cobbled paths and alleyways, picturesque cottages and lovingly tended gardens. It never ceases to amaze me how long it's survived perching so procariously on the cliff edge!!
Nice on black.
