Lichen

This tree and all the dry-stone walls are covered with Moss and lichen at this time of year. Winter days on the moor are damp dank and muddy at this time of year with just a hint of sunshine every now and again. Today was dank but still very beautiful as this photo shows. This shot was taken between Chop Gate and Carlton.

No it's not Heather, that doesn't flower fully until August, this is a mixture of bracken and the heather undergrowth which takes on a blackish purple hue in certain lights!
