In the town of Ambleside in the Lake District is this tiny Bridge house built over Stock Beck, it’s tiny and a big tourist attraction visited by thousands each year. It dates back to the 17th century in its form of today.
A potted history;-
Originally built by the.wealthy influential Braithwaite family to gain access to their land on each side of the beck. It was used by them to store apples from their orchards around the bridge. It’s longevity is thought to be because of the many uses it has had over the centuries. It has been a counting house for the mills, a tearoom, a weaving shop, a cobblers, a chair makers and at one time a home for a family of eight! In the 1920s the residents of Ambleside started fund raising to repair Bridge house and raised £1,244,11s.10d. The repairs they made enabled it to be kept for today’s and future generations, it really is a quaint and well kept tiny little house.
Not the best angle but the best I could do on the day.
Nice on black
