What is it?

This is a fruit from my neighbor's tree. I thought it was a mango. I picked one up and let it sit. After a week, it opened. Those appear to be nuts inside.

I have an answer, supplied to me by my son no less! It is known as an Ackee, which is common in Jamaica. We have many Jamaicans here. I took the photo on my desk with a greeting card behind it and just a lamp for light. Thanks so much for your comments! :-)
