We have our very own Black-capped Chickadee who visits the little bird house my daughter painted last year. The colorful house hangs from an iron double shepherd's crook; before the Chickadee swoops gracefully into the house on the other hook, it checks out the scene first. All morning, I took photos of this little bird, but this is the best one with focus.
I can say I have figured out how to use the continuous shutter within manual mode now--it's funny how I learn one thing new almost each day.
I sure hope this Chickadee is planning a family for the bird house. I've come to know its patterns and we all enjoy watching it from our glass doors and windows. My daughter attracted a wonderful little friend!
@vskolnik Thanks Vee! Before, I only knew how to do it by using the "sport mode" on my camera dial--which didn't allow me to set everything. Now I figured it out in manual--I'm a little slow, sadly!
@darylo You are very welcome, Daryl! Another thing that helps me when shooting quick moving birds is to manually set the focus point to the "center" point and then I try to keep the bird in the center of my viewfinder. That way I never have to worry about the camera choosing any random thing that may get in the way. Does that make sense...hope so!
@vskolnik Yes! Lately, I've had to manually focus too because of so many twigs and things (and a window at times--today's for example), but I am using the center focus when I have it on continuous and automatic focus too! Thanks so much!
Excellent shot! I've been trying to get a good shot of our little chickadee, but he's quite a nervous bird and will not sit still for a moment. Your focus is perfect!
@anwan I know what you mean--they flit so fast! Ours have the same "patterns" though, so now I can expect what tree or limb they will land on (or this iron crook) and wait for the moment. I love them!
@orangecrush Yes, fluffy! Thanks so much for dropping by--you must be very busy with managing this challenge--oh, and today, I'm looking up ways to make a night shot! My family is totally laughing at me. :)
You are rocking the One Night Stand photos. Great composition and focus with this image. I was certain I'd commented on this before. I hope my Kindle is not acting up again. I went through a period where none of my comments were coming through.
@judis Thanks Judi! I love this challenge as it really makes me understand the camera better. Night shot tonight? Now that is likely to be a disaster--too bad the culture/food one is not tonight--my daughter's "international night" at the middle school is custom-made for it. (Will take photos anyway!) I know what you mean about technology acting up. I teach online--there are so many things to deal with! :)
Hey, I need a bird for my photoshop project an this little guy just might be perfect. Can I have your permission to use the image? Not making a profit it's just for 365
