One Night Stand--UrbanEx--Roswell Old Mill Ruins

I live in the city of Roswell, just north of Atlanta, GA. I had hoped today to capture a nice photo of the extant machinery of the Roswell Mill (hydropowered back in the 1800's by Vickery Creek for textiles -- most notably for making Confederate soldier uniforms)--lots of old pipes, water mills, and general good ole rusted stuff. The lighting today was just not very good, and while I got some shots, they just really didn't please me.

I'm submitting this photo as it does seem to fit the "the examination of the normally unseen or off-limits parts of urban areas or industrial facilities." This prison wire is located just outside the 1853 Machine Shop, the only extant building left of the original 1839 Roswell Manufacturing Company. The building is a two story brick building and is late Georgian in style. The trail to the left of the Machine Shop leads to the old mill ruins and the dam where I initially started all my shots.

There was something in the way this little warning to "keep out" struck me and so it's probably not a very good visual for the challenge, but in the context of where I was, I thought it fitting. It also is wrapped by a bit of nature--funny how even nature won't "keep out" either.

The day started with lots of rain and thunderstorms, but it was nice to get out with my gear (tripod and all--yes, totally geeked out!) and get a wonderful walk in too.

I forgot. I did mess with this photo so not SOOC--only adjusted exposure, though. It was "almost there"

I faved this because I keep coming back and looking at this intriguing image. It reads abstract to me.

I live off Sandy Plains Road! Near where Wesley Chapel dead ends into it ! We are neighbors. I just used filler for today...a run down old gas station on the way to Lake LANier...so rainy today and I hear more is coming! Love the natural softness on this razor wire!

Great for the theme. I have never looked at razor wire up close before - it certainly looks lethal.

Love your story, and this is a beauty of a pic!

This is so beautiful and ironic. Curly soft thing wraps around sharp metallic thing.

@judis Thanks so much Judi! It felt abstract after trying to not be abstract up until that moment.

@espyetta Well, hello neighbor! Storms all last night -- sheesh. I'm afraid to go outside -- loved your gas station photo. We went up to Lanier a ton last summer with a pass for the waterpark!

@darylo I love storms as long as I am tucked into my warm bed! Haha

This is a great abstract shot and all the better given its harsh subject. I love how you captured the weed growing around it. Nice contrast with the iron.

A pretty detail of how nature cannot be tamed...

@amyspada So true! :)

Nature always fights back and reclaims, given time. Great shot.

@markp Let's hope as I age, I fight back and reclaim too! Ah me. Thanks for commenting!
