ONS5-Transportation-The Rawandan Coffee Bike

I wanted to take a photo this week to combine rural and urban in one shot, and this is a teaser to that concept—the subject is located at a place called The Land of a Thousand Hills Coffee Shop here in Roswell. This photo is the front end of a traditional “coffee bike” in Rawanda—you can’t see, but the decoration on the front “tire” has bottle caps from sodas and beers embedded in the wood. I’m relying on the coffee house’s description outside the establishment for the information about these bikes because this company has designed new bikes for the coffee bean growers to use instead of the wooden ones:

“For years, Rawandan coffee farmers have transported coffee cherries on wooden hand-made bikes. Land of a Thousand Hills is working with these farmers to help purchase safer and more efficient bikes to transport our coffee. These new Project Rawanda bikes allow the coffee farmers to bring their beans down the mountain more safely and in a third of the time. The quicker the beans reach the washing station, the higher the quality in your cup! These Coffee Bikes further the economic development of Rawanda through initiatives based on the bicycle as a tool and symbol of hope.”

To see the Project Rawanda Coffee Bike next to a traditional bike, go to my other shot for the day: http://365project.org/darylo/album3/2013-07-14

I’d personally like to thank Jerry @orangecrush once again for making my week—it was ONS4 that got me hooked on 365—I couldn’t believe I was learning so much in 7 days. I’m happy to report that I feel much more confident using Manual mode these days – even screwing up from time to time, but I can figure things out without having to rely on safety nets. I’m also not afraid to process something if needed, which I think I was too hesitant to do initially—but that’s the beauty. Forcing myself to do manual and sooc photography sometimes makes me understand the camera better. It’s such a great journey. Until next time. As they say at The Land of 1000 Hills Coffee Company: “Drink Coffee, Do Good.” If you don’t drink coffee, just do good! Cheers everyone. 
Cheers @orangecrush. Once again, you made my week. I think I speak for many when we say THANK YOU for inspiring creativity, learning new photography styles, and well, crazy behavior. One Night Stands are awesome. :)
