There is this bush in my backyard with berries and ALL of the birds and squirrels are feasting on it. Today, I saw this adult mockingbird feeding some young ones (two of them). This youth was on the limb of my apple tree -- the adult would go to the berry bush and get berries and come back! Unless this is a boy girl mating thing--but I thought the yellow on the beak was a sign it may be a youngster getting fed by a parent. If anyone knows, let me know.
I'm a little verklempt that ONS is over, but it was a great time. Back to birds. Always back to birds. :)
Oh wow! instant fav! Super duper capture on this one! To me, it seems like a baby..but I am no expert. Speaking of your "back to birds" comment...I have 15 days before I have to start back to school. I have spent an inordinate amount of all my "Free time" on photography or this website/commenting. So...I am going to give myself a challenge...I'm writing about it tonight. It is called "Against my Nature" and I can shoot anything but nature. For a week. Because....those shots for me are quick, very little processing, and up they go. I need the time to get into some sort of exercise routine, do some during the day phone calls/stuff I cannot do once back to school, and lesson planning. I think the next week, I need to do "Don't shoot!" and post filler only. Haha That way, maybe I can start back to school a bit more ready and my errands "tidied up".
One of the keys to a great nature photo is behavior. To me, a photo showing bird behavior is almost always better than a straight portrait. This is a beauty. Fav.
The one on the right is the youngster, many young nestlings have bright yellow around the inside of the beak. If I remember right there are two main ideas why, one that it stimulates the parents to feed the chicks, or a more understandable reason is that it simply makes it easier for the parents to see were to put the food in the darkness of a nest. Very nice catch.
Fabulously Fun FAV! Love, love, love how you got such personalities captured here . . . I can just imagine the dialogue. I'm so sorry I have been in such S L O W and expensive internet land and haven't kept up with viewing others' photos but I look forward to lingering over yours later. Meanwhile, if I only have a moment to click on one photo, this was the perfect one!
@jyokota You are too kind! I hate to say it, but when I'm back online teaching, I think 365ers will wish I didn't comment so much. This FREE summer has me going everywhere and begrudgingly getting in front of the computer. You are so nice to say what you said about my photo here. I'm so appreciative of the visit. :)
@lunaksi@zambianlass@wind_of_the_sothern_sea@espyetta@jodimuli Oh, wow, I'm totally, totally in shock here. Thanks so much for the comments. I didn't even know and I was just posting my "200" photo and was about to check back out. Thanks so much for your comments and congrats. I'm, really, just in complete shock.
@rvwalker Thanks so much Ross! I saw yours there too--one of my all-time favs too. Just lovely and very deserving of TT status! I'm a little surprised I'm on there, but delighted nonetheless. :) Off for a vacation, so I'll catch up with you when I get back!
@jyokota oh, you are so kind Junko! I'm on vacation in Martha's Vineyard, but saw this here and thought I better thank you now! I'm on an "internet break" because as soon as I get back, it'll be back to work and in front of computer non-stop. But thank you, thank you. :)
Incredible! This is one of the very best bird shots I've ever seen. It's one thing to get such great focus and quite another to combine that with such interesting behavior.

So happy to see it there!
