Today went like this:
1) Walked around our new washing machine that sits in the upstairs hallway because the old hoses are stuck on the spigots where the new hoses should have gone and where new washing machine should have been installed. Old machine is hauled off. I'm grumpy.
2) I make it to the office where I proceed to grade discussion forums
3) Thing #1 and Thing #2 wake up and want breakfast (Dutch pancakes and sausages). I've finished grading, so I proceed downstairs (avoiding encounter with the new washing machine).
4) I try to make Dutch pancake batter with my handheld blender--I use it almost every day. It breaks. I proceed to deep depression and lament the loss. Tell the Facebook world that my world is shattered (not that I'm about to have an incredible load of dirty laundry soon if I can't get the f'in old hoses off the stupid spigots in the laundry room).
5) Thing #2 goes into action and makes pancake batter "the old fashioned way" and starts to cook--for which I am deeply grateful.
6) I decide that I need to take advantage of the sun shining and I pull out our electric pressure washer that someone gave us when they moved. I practically blow it up at one point, but I get it working and proceed to get mud, mildew, mold all over me and I decide to pressure wash myself before going back inside since I'm pretty sure that I won't be able to put the muddy clothes in any freaking washing machine any time soon.
7) Thing #1 whines that she is bored and that she wants to go to a movie. I say, "we have had rain for ages and you want to go to a movie when the sun is shining outside?" But I agree--but only a late movie so I don't miss my time outdoors. I have big plans to catch my hummingbirds in light. No that never happens.
8) I carpool with my neighbors to a memorial celebration for a neighbor who passed away recently. Chuck was a great man--so kind to us all--someone who came to my parties and stayed til the end. There was a very moving slideshow, some music, grandchildren, friends, relatives--it was a great time and a time to check my attitude about my stupid washer and blender and mud and mold and mildew.
9) I get home, we rush to movie. It sells out while we are in line.
10) I drive us to a restaurant, we eat, we listen to live music and we watch two kids dance and laugh and thrash and hide and bounce while the music plays and we smile and giggle and I think of when my kids were young like this and unfettered.
11) I arrive home and I realize I have no real photo for the day to express what I'm feeling and thinking, but I did have one yesterday. It was a weed, not a dandelion, but with hairs like a dandy. And I thought, yes, a bad hair day. Or a hairy day.
Did you read your horoscope?...haha...sounds like a long day messing with heavy equipment...:(. regardless this is a really awesome shot...:)... What are the colors in the background?
Your commentary had me in stitches even though it truly was a very bad horrible day -- reminds me of the book about Alexander! The good news...it can only get better! And the shot is a great one to go with the commentary -- unfortunately, it's quite beautiful so 'bad hair day' underestimates it!
@nanderson This shot was just above a river off the side of a road. The green is some of the vines and overgrowth that comb the riverside up the bank and then the weeds sort of stick up. It was the "golden hour" so the light was great. I adjusted the left side to go more dark so the "hair" would show up a bit more.
@grammyn You are ahead in Hot Dog points these days!! I'm sure the "diva" in me came through loud and clear. Some days are just blah. But the sun was shining and I really did enjoy the memorial gathering--so nice to see people celebrate a life lived to its fullest.
@timandelke Day two: Hoses going NO WHERE. Ahhhhhhh! Let's hope Thing #2 has enough clothes for a week or else she's learning how to wash and dry clothes by hand like she knows how to make pancake batter from scratch! Laundry is one of those things that is proof a Devil exists. At least in my mind.
Your picture is fabulous. I love the very fine detail you have captured of each strand. Amazing close up, Daryl
