Tirtagangga, East Bali, and my first stop on our six days of tours. Tirtagangga is a water palace, and it's really not that old--in fact, it was destroyed at one point by a volcano, but it's been in restoration ever since--that might explain why there were rather new looking sculptures in a garden above the public swimming area (for a fee). As one enters the water palace, one can walk across water on beautiful tiles; in the water swim some very large koi around very ornate statues. There are a variety of fountains and this one happened to have a few water spouts feeding into a stream. I believe that this man is attempting to approach the stream from a purification stance--not sure, but I'm guessing I was drawn to what he was doing.
As it was my first day on tour, I was playing with my camera and trying to trust my "manual" settings--I used the histogram a lot this trip because I was advised it would really help with editing.
I loved this first tour visit. Just beyond the walls of this complex is the ocean! So as a "resting place" for the royal family, I could see this being quite the oasis. For this man, I see the wonders of the pure water as it flowed freely.
This is a lovely candid, and I really like the detail in those tiles. I'm thinking there may be a lean in this photo to the left, but maybe I'm still rocking from being on a boat!
@888rachel it was a hard shot to crop as nothing served as an anchor. The back wall is what I used for leveling. The foreground was much more prominent before my crop, but that made the man secondary to the tile designs. Too bad i cannot redo! :)
