While at Lake Ulun Danu in Bali, there was a ceremony going on in the temple area. We were not permitted access, but soon afterward, the group inside the temple exited with all of their offerings to the Gods on the Lake. The whole process was quite lovely: two women exited with large baskets of offerings and they joined two men in a boat to paddle out to the middle of the lake. The entire congregation of worshippers stood on the shore watching with a great intensity. Once the offerings were given on the lake surface, the boat returned with the front woman holding something on her head (I think it had water in it actually).
Then the group processed again back up to the front of the entrance to this site. It is a large compound, so I'll post more photos, but I liked this one from my point of view. All I can say is that Bali has wonderful Hindu ceremonies.
At this particular venue also is a neighboring Mosque (Indonesia is predominantly Muslim, but Bali is more Balinese Hindu). The mosque had some call to prayer song going rather loudly over the speakers they had set up right next to the Hindu site. My guide just gestured that the Mosques are pretty loud. And he rolled his eyes just a bit. I thought that was pretty amusing. From my observations, and from my guide's information, I gathered that Bali has about 5 religions, and all of them live in harmony. Got to like that!
I really like your delicate handling of the ceremony, giving us just an out of focus glimpse of the people and having the main focus on the decorated walls.
