@homeschoolmom it's a ritual/ceremony to be thankful of the gift of the lake. Balinese Hinduism is very rich in expressing thanks for everything and gor being mindful of expressions of kindness at every turn. Because they believe in reincarnation, they have a vested interest in a successful journey over and over, and not just for themselves. The generosity in this country could teach mine quite a few lessons! :)
