I was a very fortunate traveler during my trip. With the exception of one night, I stayed with friends or at a friend's place. When I arrived in Tokyo (a direct flight from Atlanta, GA), I took the Narita Express to Ebisu where my host picked me up and we proceeded by taxi because I had a large bag.
My friends had a very lovely apartment that had a few balconies, and I took my camera out there the first night to capture Tokyo Tower, lit up in bright colors!
I had seen Tokyo Tower one other time in my life--I was 10 years old, and I was staying with my girlfriend who had moved from the states to Tokyo because her dad worked for Coca-Cola at the time.
I thought it appropriate to begin the trip with this lovely view. I had memories flooding from my youth, and I knew that while my visit to Tokyo would be brief, I would be returning to a place that held a special place in my heart.
Tokyo Tower! And so close -- and at eye level! An icon from my childhood, lovely to see it in your album and to hear of your childhood connection to it. Who knows, maybe you and I were seeing it at the same time back nearly 50 years ago?
