@grammyn Yes! I was never sure of proper protocol on these temple visits. People would light them, and some folks just approached and waved the smoke over them (I did that too). Each temple had some very interesting rituals--some cleansed with the water in cups, some incense, and some by ringing bells. It was such a rushed trip in Japan that I just observed others and then did the same things. In Bali, I had an guide so everything was told to me in terms of why, what, where, when, but in Japan, I was just a woman with a camera fascinated by all around me!
