This was the big day when we went to choose the Christmas tree at Allendale Farm.
Allendale Farm is about three miles from home, on the border of Boston and Brookline. It's a very special place, considered to be the last working farm in Boston. It's amazing that it's still there at all. It's a small farm, which grows vegetables in the summer, and the owners resist tremendous pressure from developers who would love to get their hands on that land. The farm stand is very popular.
The Christmas trees are from Nova Scotia, as are most of the trees sold in the Boston area. Maybe they had a drought this year too--the trees didn't seem as good as usual, but I finally found one I liked.
In the greenhouse I enjoyed these displays of paperwhites, glass Christmas trees, and reindeer.
Sounds like a great place - know how hard it is to keep these small farms going with developers who want their land. Have watched it happen too often in Colorado. Bet you had a fun day picking out your tree.
