We went to Rochester Castle-A huge mediaeval Castle built in 1088. The girls are doing about the Battle of Hastings in 1066 and I wanted to bring the history alive for them. Being an historian it is just up my alley. They really enjoyed it…. So did I. When I was teaching we used to take our year 7’s there so it brought back lots of memories
A lovely shot of this impressive castle, with its attractive archways.
When you come to York on Thursday there are still likely to be floods, but they do mainly only affect riverside areas (The Kings Arms might well be closed!). If you are in York until the weekend, there is an ice sculpture trail to see, details and a map are available on the Visit York website.
The age of this is mind boggling to me - being from downunder. In 1088 there was nothing here but bush, moas and Haast eagles - plus all the other myriad of birdlife that used to be here.
