Fountains Abbey

Fountains Abbey on a beautiful sunny February afternoon.

The abbey was founded in 1132 by 13 Benedictine monks from St Mary’s in York. They'd grown tired of the extravagant and rowdy way that the monks lived in York and so they escaped, seeking to live a devout and simple lifestyle elsewhere. This was how they came to Fountains.
A fine looking building.

looks good in mono Denise. One of our first school trips was to "fountains abbey" . I think as 7 / 8 years we weren't that interested , all I recall is playing on some rocks and jumping with joy when some RAF jets flew overhead !

The National Trust’s second best site in my opinion. Stunning ruin and grounds. Love it there.
