Here is another collage of an old church near my home. The two top left photos are of the original church building which was built approximately 1796. The shape of the building is plain but yet beautiful. I believe this was the typical shape and structure of churches built in that time period. They still hold special holiday services in that original building. The sanctuary is absolutely beautiful. The other, darker stone church was the one they built later, approximately the mid 1880's. I love the texture of the stone, the intricate details of the carved entrance pillars, and the windows. It too is a beautiful piece of art. That building is used regularly by its congregation. I have not been inside that church, but do plan to visit in the near future. Again I tried to capture some of the external highlights of this beautiful church. I am just so glad they have decided to maintain both structures as they are both an improtant piece of our town's history.
This is a great collage. I like the white steeple in the one view and the beautiful, colorful door in the other.
The next time I come up to your part of the world I may have to check out these 2 old churches.
Love architecture, especially historical ones! (Um, I wouldn't have chosen lime green either. lol, I've been tempted to knock on the door and see if they'll let me in to see the building. And my puppy... he's lucky he's so lovable and cute. Can't wait until the chewing phase is done.)
Love the history of these old churches. I like the intricate details of the entrance and I'm guessing the textures probably have to be seen in real life to truly appreciate.
BTW, thanks for your recent comments. I actually played around quite a bit with the coloring of my shot yesterday. The original concept was to just have my hands holding earth, but I was failing miserably attempting to Photoshop out my body so I kept it in. Then I had to desaturate everything except the globe so that all the colors didn't compete for attention. Glad you liked the end result.
Oh so sweet Rick, love the old style Churches and Catherdrals.
I think, some of the more open ones tend to let people think that they aren't in a Church.
You know what I love about this lovely church?
The Door. The doorway really stands out to me.
Look....the brass catches the light and makes it almost glow.
Which in turn makes it look inviting, which is how churches are supposed to look, don't you think?
oh, these churches are beautiful. love the simplicity of the first one, and conversely the detail of the other!! both are lovely. i was in salem a few years ago on a christian heritage tour of primarily plymouth and boston areas. it is such a beautiful area.
and thank you for your comments on my photos about family camp. we absolutely feel blessed to go there.
