Getting Away by digitalrn

Getting Away

I Close My Eyes And I Do See
A Peaceful Place I Long To Be
Steps That Take Me Far Away
A Quiet Place To End The Day
My Worries There Will Disappear
A Quiet Hush I Long To Hear
A Gentle Breeze, I Sense The Calm
Stress Unwinding, Soon Be Gone
I Feel A Peace Flow Over Me
For This Is Where I Need To Be
A Perfect Way To End The Day
On Steps That Take Me Far Away

Words By Rick Schies

Not too far from where I live there is a beautiful wildlife preserve. It is quiet and so peaceful. Not only are there many great photographing opportunities, but it also offers you a place to get away form the chaos of today's hectic routine. I found this one spot that I enjoy. It is quiet, and this set of stairs is all that is left of what used to be some little building. It leads to nowhere. As I was sitting there I had the idea of these steps leading you away from a busy day, to a place where one can forget about all their worries. So I jotted down the words to the little poem above. Then as I was looking through everyone's photos for the day, I noted that someone else had a photo with similar thoughts, thoughts of a getaway. It must have been one of those days all around.
Nice job, I loved the poem! You are multi-talented!

Thank you. I actually posted the wrong photo but I left it there. The one I wanted to post was the same one but I made the outer portions of the photo around the steps out of focus, kind of dreamy. I didn't feel like taking it out and re-posting.

Love the poem -- this is the 2nd really nice poem that I read of yours recently. You write very nice poetry; I wish I could write poems with serious thoughts like yours.
A "special" place to "go" in your mind for stress mgt & pain mgt is great. Once many years ago I was visiting a place & I knew I would never see any place more beautiful in this life -- so that is my special place where I return to in my mind.

this is so pretty and I am impressed you wrote the poem too!! I like these type of pictures--makes me wonder about the history/story behind the steps....may I use this picture next school year as a story starter for my students?

Rick! That's just fantastic! Your poem is wonderful, and if it was inspired by your location and the picture you took, well, what a marvelous pairing! I hope you have a place to save that poem...it really is *that good*!
