This little box is capable of summoning an army of life savers. It is the life saving link to an army of men and women who have dedicated their time to responding to fire emergencies. Working in the healthcare setting, it is an important part of our daily routine to know how to respond to emergencies like a fire. Failure to react according to the proper procedures could result in loss of life. We take it seriously. Knowing what to do can save lives, even your own. I have personally experienced a real fire emergency in a hospital setting, and because people knew what to do, the damage was minimal.
As a child in school I used to wonder what would happen it I pulled that lever... Never did find out :) But I heard that anyone that did would be taken away and never heard from again... lol. :) Cool shot :)
What is it about the fire alarms? The vibrant red? I almost took a pic of one the other day. Rick I think you summed it up best. It is the life saving symbolism that draws us to them. Great shot!
Great for the theme. This project is making us look at the world in a more detailed manner. How many times do we all pass a fire alarm without even know it is there.
Great subject! It reminds me of all the fire alarms that take place when undergraduates think it is funny to "pull down". I've spent many evacuation hours out on the front lawn waiting for the firetrucks to arrive and give the library the "all clear" signal :-)
You are a great expositional writer. Your photos are always accompanied by informative prose, but more than that, your writing encourages your readers to become better people.
Great pic! When I showed my pic of a Fire alarm to my mom ( http://365project.org/maola/365/2010-07-23) she told me that I pulled it once, when I as 4 or 5 lol. I didn't remember that.... but I'm sorry, a few years latter, for the trouble it caused!
Great Shot! I pass by one every day, and didn't even think of it. . . . and, just like the ones on the walls, your picture makes me wanna pull down the lever and see what happens!!
These are the ban of my existence.. I have lived in universities in Russia, Quebec, and Saskatoon and in all places... drunk idiots thought it was fun to pull these at 4 am.... I am glad to hear they can save lives too... but I worry about crying wolf!
Great shot! I was working in a plastics factory when the fire alarm went off. Everyone went running (we had never practiced a drill there before). We all got out safely. There was really a fire at one end of the building so we did have to go back to work! Boy did it stink!!
What a "small" item, but so powerful! Your caption really shook me awake to consider its compelling command! Once again, you, as a member of 365, have selected something we've all encounted, but reminded us of its importance. ...You do such a worthwhile job, you really ought to be thanked (as I'm sure you are) for giving of your time and training. I hope when your retirement days finally come, you'll fill them, too! We had no idea these would elevate themselves to the best years of our life together. Wishing you the same!
I always hoped the drill came during math. The practice is important and sometimes we don't realize how much until faced with the real thing. Glad everything worked out okay.
