The gift shop where I work has in their display a collection of these neat figures. I noticed them a few weeks ago, and finally had to buy one to set on my office shelf among some of my other items. This particular fellow is a bobble head. So now, depending on how my day is going, I can tap this guy on his head and get a smile, because he will always smile back. Some times, I'd rather be fishing. What would be your escape if you were having a bad day? You know what I'll be doing when I retire.
I'm so glad you bought this guy so you can get a smile whenever you need one! Very cool. My escape since I was a young child has always been books and reading...for many years it was writing, especially fiction, but now that writing for newspapers and magazines is my job writing for fun doesn't feel like an escape anymore, even though I still miss it. This year photography really has become my escape, but walking on the beach is always, always my best go to escape from the day to day stress. I'm very fortunate that my husband knows this about me because when things get especially crazy in our lives, he's always the one to push me in that direction, even if he has to pull me by the hand to get me there. Very thoughtful question, Rick! It really helped me to think about this tonight...
YES!!! Fishing!!! That's how I will spend everyday of my retirement. My kids and I LOVE fishing!!! This figurine will definitely draw a smile!! Nice subject!!
Ha ha! He reminds me of a silly fish we bought for my brother-in-law one Christmas. When you turned him on he wiggled his tail and sang a silly song about fishing. My escape-absolutely the beach- even in the winter- a chair, a blanket (if needed) my Bible and a good book. I could read and listen to the waves all day. I like walking on the beach too and collecting shells. Fun picture- great question!
Funny, the way we're drawn to include little mementos in our lives. The day you can relax with a fishing rod in your hands, you'll likely find it was all worth waiting for! Me...out on the water, too...sailing perhaps when the opportunity arises, but I'm always happy when I can curl up with a good book... (...and looking for photo opportunities and watching a special little baby grow!)
This is the first time I have come across yout shots....and this one really caught my eye! So funny, I love when a pic can make me smile. My escape? With four little people at home, my ultimate time out is Me just me, the sun, and a great book for an hour or two in the park. Following now :)
What a good question to ask ! My escape is always reading & more reading I just love it ! This is a fun guy & will bring a smile to your face if you are a bit down. I love his little bag with all the fish in !!
He's a classic, Rick. Love the face.
I hop on my bike and go for a long ride or a short hard ride up a tough hill.... and then relax with a lovely coffee :)
Cute little guy...I'd get out of town and head to the mountains for a hike, camera in hand...that is if I could find someone to go with me...if not, just go for a drive and skip the hike part...again camera in hand.
Wow, Rick...you really got a big response with this great photo. Well deserved! Me? Getting lost in some creative adventure in my studio...or floating in my kayak...or...hey, I am retired. I could do anything I damn well please!
Rick, I have so many to choose from, Photography, family tree, reading
watching Movies, gardening is pretty good, and meeting with a friend for a coffe and a chat intermittent with lots of laughing. Like your little fisherman. Nursing Babies used to be real big with me for happiness, but sadly they are all grown up, and I miss that a lot.
Very cute little guy (:
(Gardening and kayaking...!)

Excellent shot.
...and a fav!
What is my escape? Hmmm...I like being in the sun and relaxing and probably with the iPod...and then taking pictures somewhere that I have never been.
