I thought I would honor my wife's "Green Thumb" as a posting for tonight. It has been a long standing joke with her that she was not born with a green thumb. Over the years she tried her best at planting and keeping flowers around the house, but they would always die. She even killed a cactus that I bought her. I thought if she would see how well the cactus did, it would boost her confidence with plants. Well, it died, perhaps it wasn't the best idea. Several weeks ago my Dad was cleaning out some of his plants, and he asked my Wife if she wanted some Cats & Kittens, as he referred to them. She said yes. Needless to say, I was skeptical. Now come on, she doesn't have a good track record with plants, remember? Well anyway, she went out and bought these nice pots, bought some potting soil and transplanted a bunch of these Cats & Kittens, or Kitten Claws, whatever you call them. To my surprise, they are doing exceptionally well. I think she may have found her "Green Thumb" at last. She is a happy camper. I am posting early tonight, as I must go back into work to do my staff meetings. I should get back home around 1:00am. I will try to do some commenting then. If not I'll catch up tomorrow. Have a good night.
I think she may have found the perfect plant to bring her success! Succulents don't need much care for the benefits they bring. These will soon be spilling over the sides!
beautiful plant and framing. I do not have a green thumb either. Maybe I should try this. Have a good night at work. No commenting necessary, you deserve some time off as you are so dedicated and have been for over a year!
Those are beautiful and in a strawberry planter they will do very well. We call them chicks and hens. :) But I like the Cat and Kittens. Hardy little plants. I am like your wife and kill almost everything I touch in the house but outside is so much better. Great capture too Rick. I love reading your narratives. :)
Congratulations to your wife on finding her green thumb. Mine is a lazy one- I like the things you throw into the ground and forget about. This is a nice shot- I like the perspective. As for the commenting at 1 AM- go to bed and comment tomorrow- you've earned it!
Cute story! I like the plants that require the least attention..silk plants..Good luck to your wife with this plant. I hope you do not have to stay at work too late.
Lovely lighting on the plant. We call then Hen and chickens around here but it doesn't matter because they are now Mrs. Schies' babies! No need to comment..you are always good to all of us...get some sleep!
A very pretty, dreamy shot. Good for her! She must be so happy to finally have some success. I have the same ungreen thumb... My mother-in-law used to have these in her yard. She also called them hens and chicks - Cats and Kittens is much cuter.
Really great shot. I don't have much of a green thumb either but for some reason my houseplants are still alive (almost 2 years later). I was told they like neglect so maybe that's why ;)
This post made me very happy! Like your lovely wife, I have been accused of having a black thumb when it comes to houseplants. But I rock at outside gardens so I'm really glad your wife has finally had success. And the lighting and focus on this shot is exceptionally good.
Well, good for her for not giving up...I can certainly identify with your wife...I do NOT have a green thumb at all...I just buy new plants when company is coming!!!
such a pretty looking plant!! your story made me giggle. I know how your wife feels!! i have tried growing flowers as well and they always died on me....i dont know what i was doing wrong? Maybe over watering them or something. My husband would always make fun of me too....and then FINALLY this year i am growing a few different kinds of plants and they are all living and doing well!!! So it puts a big smile on my face too :D I know how your wife feels!!!
I like that you have shown your lovely wife's success, you are such a great husband. Succulents don't need our watering, just check online. These look so lovely and healthy too. I have a green thumb and my DH will water things into oblivian, if I don't keep an eye on them. Do you help her with "overwatering" Rick? Just asking. hahahaha
@glenys Glenys, Oh no,I allow her the privilege of watering. If it happens that she overwaters, I had no part in it LOL. I must laugh at her. SHe has two greens in trhe house that are dying. Every so many days she picks out the dead ones. I keep saying, didn't you throw that out yet? Her repsonse, "You know I can't do that. That is like killing something that is stiull alive." I guess one day soon I will put them out of their misery, when she is not home.
They call them hens & chickens or something like that around here....they are pretty undemanding plants so hopefully they'll thrive for your wife! Lovely picture Rick!
Wonderful shot Rick.
