The simple pen, a small, and seemingly insignificant object, but yet it can be quite a powerful instrument. Throughout the years a simple writing instrument has been used to create and sign into existence some very important documents. Think about the constitution of the United States, the Declaration of Independence, the laws prohibiting slavery, laws promoting equal rights, some great peace treaties, and so many other great documents of importance around the world. What about all the famous authors and musicians. Look at how instrumental this insignificant object has been in influencing the world that we know today. Let's turn our thoughts away from this pen, and think of ourselves. Many of us think of ourselves as insignificant, but I think we should each accept the challenge to reconsider that notion. We possess such great potential. I think we sometimes under estimate our own capabilities. If we read through the pages of history, we find that every successful person in history was no different than you and I. Look at the difference some of them made. Do we nothave the same potential? Of course we do. We can make a big difference. We all have what it takes to make it happen.
Going out tonight, so I uploaded a little early. I will catch up on the viewing and commenting later. Hope you have a wonderful Friday night.
I hope you enjoyed your night out too. Love the way you've positioned the pen in this photo. and as always enjoyed reading your thoughts about it. Great photo.
You know, I always love your philosophy. You take something as simple as a pen and relate it back to us in such a simple, yet meaningful and wonderful way. Great shot and great attitude!
Oh, Rick, I love your deep thoughts on such simple objects. I read this just in time. Because of your words, put so well, I am going to change my write-up today. Thanks for your wisdom, even if you didn't know. Have a lovely evening!
Rick unsually I don't like long write ups but yours are of so much interest and learning power that I can sit there and take it all in. and of course the subjects of your pictures are at times to simple yet you make them so important. you have such a wonderful way of expressing yourself.
This is a beautiful photo and beautiful thoughts. I'm so glad you stuck around here after your year was over. You add so much wisdom and thoughtfulness to so many people's lives.
Love the looks of this pen. I bet it does have some magical powers...if I only had a good pen I might write something memorable too...all kidding aside, you would never need a magic pen as you are such a thoughtful writer. This message was great but the one you wrote me today was so kind and supportive that I want you to know how much I appreciated you taking the time to write to me today. This day has been pretty tough but it was friends like you who got me through this day. Thank you with all my heart.
Minimalistic but powerful indeed! Love the commentary along with this great shot. Reminds me of this quote from Baron Lytton: “Beneath the rule of men entirely great The pen is mightier than the sword.”
(Edward George Earle Lytton Bulwer-Lytton)
Rick, I just finished the book, "A World Lit Only by Fire" by William Manchester-- a history of the Middle Ages and Thr Renaissance. Throughout history, men and women have altered the course of civilization by standing firm to their beliefs even in the face of custom, censure, organized religion and the law. It made me question how strong I would be in the face of opposition. We truly stand on the shoulders of giants. As usual, your thoughtful commentary makes visiting your page delight.
what is the saying? the pen is more powerful than the sword - so true. Ideas when written & read by others can change the world. great minimalistic shot, Rick.

to you Rick, "The Pen is mightier than the Sword" whenever it's in your hand.
