These are my Wife's Cats and Kittens she receved from my Dad several months ago, at least that is what he called them. They go by several names depending on where you live. They are doing quite well on the back porch, and she is quite pleased that they have survived her "not so green" thumb. I played around with the processinbg a bit, and ended up liking it in Sepia. Hope you had a wonderful Wednesday.
I've always called them Hens and Chicks as well, but I like Cats and Kittens too. The sepia is a great choice and I like how you blended the frame with the picture. My thumb is a very light green. I'm fine with low maintainence plants, but after that- proceed with caution!
I think it belongs to the cactus and succulents, they are such an adorable plant. My grandma used to plant them on the window plant box...it does brighten my day back then. Nicely framed Rick!
I really like the composition of this and the treatment of the sepia, Rick. We call them "hens and chickens" down here in the South too. Whatever you call them, they are hardy. I think your wife will enjoy them for a long time.
@junebug Bonnie, my goodness, it is good to see you on again. I was reading through my commenbts and all of a sudden it hit me, wow, it has been a long time. How are you?
Beautiful shot, and so lovely that it is from your Dad! It always makes me happy to see little glimpses of those who have passed on still in our lives. Last night during dinner I happened to notice a set of Hall Autumn Leaf pattern bowls on my hutch that my great grandmother gave me when I got my first apartment. Back then I didn't know they were antiques, so I used them all the time - as she meant me to. I haven't used them in 20 years because I'm so afraid I'll break one.
@lauriehiggins Laurie, the Autumn Leaf pattern by Halls is a popular one. I collect the Red Poppy version. My Mother had a few pieces, so I began collecting that after she passed away. I have now accumulated a set, place setting fo 12. They are also quite expensive. Anotehr gret piece to collect is Watt pottery. I collect the Starflower pattern. If I were you I would build your set of Autumn Leaf. People are parting with these things now for some reason.
@digitalrn Thank you so much for that tip! I have the three bowl nesting set. On the other side of my family this was also a huge thing and I remember all those dishes so well, because they caused a huge rift between my grandmother and her sister when my other great-grandmother died. I'm going to look up the Red Poppy version. I've never seen that one.
Very beautiful shot and processing. Looked like a water lily or magnolia in the thumbnail. I think, I know what this is, if so, I've know it to be called hen & chicks. Either way, cute names I think :-)
