A Disappearing Era by digitalrn

A Disappearing Era

Our town is full of some of the most beautiful old buildings. Many are still standing, but so many are occupied as apartments, and so man are not being very well maintained. As I drive through the streets I often think, I wonder what it was like when these places were still thriving businesses. It is so sad to see an era disappear. This old building sits on the corner of the main route through town, and as you can see at the very top, there remains a remnant of the lettering that once announced the business. Going out for supper, so I will be back later to browse and comment. Have a great night.
What a cool capture

Love the grace of that turret and I always love faded signs painted on brick. I really like the way the sun highlights the best parts of the scene.

lovely old building, nice shot

Beautiful building and I love the faded ad. I love photographing old buildings in case they go away. I love it when they get restored and used again

I like this one Rick. I like the steeple look.

My town is full of some really old buildings too...so which where actually slept in by George Washington.

I really like to see the lettering of old businesses left intact. It's almost like they will be remembered even if they had their demise years ago. Nice job Rick. Enjoy your evening.

Great capture, I love building photos!!
August 17th, 2011
at least you get to preserve some of them in photograph before it will totally disappear to new developments. Nicely captured btw.

I live in the historic section of my town and I'm in love with the older buildings. We have a historical committee that makes sure to preserve the older buildings but some are unable to be saved because of cost. Really like this photo with the faded letters.

I love old buildings and it warms my heart to see them renovated and used. But what a shame when they are torn down.

Stunning. I love old buildings.... :)

The site is very slow tonight so I'm commenting on all the thumbnails best as I can. Love the colors on this one Rick.

Yes I know how you feel Rick, sometimes I really feel that things like that are inevitable...they sort of just have to happened. I big cities in our place...some districts just don't fade...they decay and die. sad indeed but people seems not to care.

What love old buildings - I know how you feel.
August 17th, 2011
Nice find - love that turret!
August 17th, 2011
Nice shot Rick these old red brick buildings have an inviteing character style and warm feel to them, unlike the new steel and glass sterile looking things they call style today.
August 17th, 2011
great capture rick! love the soft colors and the writing....
August 17th, 2011
looks like a nice building.... i do hope it is kept standing for many decades to come... such a beautiful building...
August 17th, 2011
Nicely captured.
August 17th, 2011
Great shot Rick. I lot of old towns I've been in have BAYER lettering on the sides of buildings no longer in the works. I've never seen the BRIDAL lettering.
August 17th, 2011
What a lovely old building!
August 17th, 2011
Wonderful shot.

I love to look at these fading old buildings . .many in our town are fading too. Business here is drying up. And now it's become "touristy." Sad.
August 17th, 2011
This is a wonderful picture, Rick. Your composition is perfect! I feel the same way about old buildings. It makes me sad to see them go.
August 17th, 2011
This is such a beautiful old building and I agree, your composition is stunning. I love the faded words on the brick.
August 17th, 2011
gorgeous building!! I always wonder what the buildings would say--what stories they could tell--if they could speak!! :)
August 17th, 2011
I love these old buildings as you know. But makes you wonder who did the green top of building and how they did it. I am afraid we are losing some of those talents.
August 17th, 2011
At least some of them are now being converted to lofts, but you are right in that all cities have their share of derelict buildings.
August 17th, 2011
Interesting photo and perfect composition! Oh the stories they have to tell...
August 17th, 2011
Beautifully composed, Rick. I really love this!!!
August 17th, 2011
A great looking old building which still shows a lot of character..it looked perfect as a bridal store..so sad that there isn't enough money to fix these buildings up and who knows maybe another bridal store would again find a nice place for business.
August 17th, 2011
Old buildings always have the most interesting histories. Every place I've been to has a story of its own; no matter how old it is.
August 18th, 2011
Totally agree I often wonder the same about old buildings. Some old ones here have recently succumb to fire so that is really sad to know that Architecture has now gone with lots of other styles. Hope you had a nice outing.
August 18th, 2011
Like the turret on this building - definitely from another era. They don't make them like this anymore. Nice shot!
August 18th, 2011
I love going through old towns that have signs on buildings like this. It's a reminder of their past for everyone who passes through lest it be forgotten. Kudos to you for capturing this one for all of us to see.
August 18th, 2011
Beautiful shot, Rick! It is sad to see these thing disappearing before us. I love these old buildings with the names painted on the brick or an old advertising sign. Definately from a different era and fading away rather quickly.
August 19th, 2011
That is a beautiful old building... I love the turit (?). It would make a great home or studio with all that light coming in there.
August 19th, 2011
I love the old buildings!
August 20th, 2011
Nice shot, Rick. I feel sad to see beautiful old buildings in disrepair. America tends to move on to building new instead of preserving our past which is such a shame.
August 21st, 2011
That's a great looking building. Love the writing on the side.
August 24th, 2011
Love that spire and the old brick. Nice perspective looking up.
