This week's theme has me digging around through various items in my collection of old items. Nothing that I have is extremely valuable, though some things are priceless because of what they mean to me. I was up in the attic looking around, and all of a sudden it hit me. Everyday I live, when I wake up and when I go to bed, I am surrounded by antiquity. The home we live in is over 100 years old, and 80 of those years it was in my family's name. After grabbing a few photos up in the attic, I started down the stairs, and then I decided to go back up and take a photo of the stairs leading down. I remember sneaking up these stairs as a young child, curious as to what was up there. The rest of the house we remodeled, but the attic has remained as it always has been. The smell is still the same as I remember, in fact, if I want to take a trip down memory lane, the attic is the one place in the house that will trigger many of those memories for me.
Oh I know that attic smell. It is so evocative. This is a great image, especially by including and highlighting your foot. And I'm guessing it's a good thing you did to prevent a stumble and a tumble!
Love these stairs - the angle and perspective. They are well-shot and well-preserved. I haven't seen stairs like these in a long time; and so I'm happy to know that you kept them this way. And smell is the one thing that will always trigger memories for us as it's a sense that travels straight the middle of your brain; triggering the most unusual memories from unusual times.
There's something about old attics and mystery and the smell of them! I used to play in my grandmother's attic for hours and hours. Thanks for bringing back the memories!
Great perspective on this shot looking down the stairs. Nice story too. I'm sure you have tons of memories in that house. Fun to wonder down memory lane every now and then.
I love old attics and from the hint I see in this photo and your words, I can tell that your attic is wonderful. I used to spend hours in my grandmother's attic. How awesome that you live in a house with such a rich family history!
Great shot Rick. Isn't it amazing how smells can take us back in an instant, to a moment in time.
Wow! your home is over 100 years years old - wonderful. Added bonus is that you still live in your family home.
yikes, great perspective...they look steep! your excellent description took me back to my own past; it's amazing how scents can trigger intense memories
Certain smells can trigger huge memories that's for sure, almost as if being transported back in the past sense-wise. I can imagine you, Rick, as a young kid curious to see what mysteries were held upstairs.
Attics are such interesting places- both of my grandparents had fascinating attics and I loved them as a girl. My imagination had a thousand stories cooked up there! I like the shot here- as if you've had your retreat to those good memories and you're ready to go back to the present. Nice one!
Oh my, I remember stairs like that, too. What a great story, and you are so lucky to have lived in and kept this family home. If the walls could only talk...
kind of a dark and spooky perspective, but VERY KEWL rick!! those stairs have seen many different feet im sure, and i think it is pretty neat that it was left as is, and not renovated!!! i love when you are able to smell something that takes you back to your yonger days....to me, that is very special!! great shot!
