Mandatory photos and Bucket Lists

March 11th, 2012
A couple of times this week people have been posting and describing essential photos that needed to be taken. According to Jani the pineapple with glasses is a mandatory shot ( http://365project.org/janmaki/365/2012-03-09) and Cassandra can tick a dragonfly photo off her bucket list ( http://365project.org/ozziehoffy/365/2012-03-08)
For me personally I have the obligatory smoke shot, water crown still to master and I also still want to capture the aged wrinkled portrait, the ultimate selfie and be allowed to take a portrait of each of my daughters. Of course now on my list is a pineapple with glasses and a dragonfly too.

What are the photos that you absolutely must take at some point?

I personally don't have any "mandatory" shots. I feel that as soon as I start to feel that I "have" to get a certain shot, this will stop being fun. Just my opinion though.

That being said, I'd be pretty happy with a decent selfie or a smoke shot (not that I will ever understand the smoke shots).

I think I'll leave the cooky sunglass wearing fruit shots to @janmaki lol.

Ah, I never had a bucket list, but when I get bored with my everyday, I think What are the Overdone shots that all Photographers on 365 at some time try. Then I try to add my own spin to it. That is one of the many things that I have learned from @janmaki

I have done the squirrel shot, spider web, reading selfie, butterfly, dandelion and scrabble. I never know what else will appear on my list, until it happens. :)

For me it is not so much a mandatory shot as learning something different and developing the skills required to achieve the shot.

When I see something that interests me I think I'd like to try it to see if I CAN do it and then to be able to say I did it later.

@sdghjt sorry but the nike, jordan and the prada are soooo off topic. Crawl back to your little hole, spambot! @scrivna

@monika64 only the frog-on-a-tomato shot :)
March 11th, 2012
I don't know about "mandatory" shots, but I was thrilled to be able to photograph bald eagles last Monday. Doesn't get much better than that.

I really really want to get a star trails shot....I have a few in mind if I can get there at the right time. Other than that, just to push myself to shoot something I haven't yet, right now thats people......
March 11th, 2012
Haha, I only used 'mandatory' because it is how Jani describes his pineapple photo and I got to thinking about the photos I had in my head that I still wanted to take in this year of photographic obsession.
I'm interested in hearing yours because I may add it to my internal 'to do list' for when I'm stuck for ideas.
hmmm @dieter frog on a tomato....goes on the list
@cfitzgerald scrabble, butterfly and spiderweb, too :)
March 11th, 2012
@shadesofgrey oh yes! star trails....on the list! :)

Check out the tag 1001 Mandatory Shots tag to get more ideas :-) Of course, Jani made the tag up too

I made a list of photos I would like to try. Tonight, we were bored and tried a little "light painting" in two different styles. I came here to learn new things and so far, this group is providing a lot of fun things to do and try. I don't call it a bucket list, but more of a "what next?" idea list!
March 11th, 2012
@cfitzgerald Are you serious???
I never would have started this if I had seen that... haha, nothing is ever new.
March 11th, 2012
@cfitzgerald I have never known how to search by tag if its not on the tag page. when I put it in the search box it comes up in a discussion but not as a tag....

@shadesofgrey it is star trail week, get going tonight.
March 11th, 2012
@monika64 we make this up as we go, hence the pineapple. After I got a shot of a double rainbow did I say it is mandatory.

@janmaki

I actually feel a bit silly starting this now.... it was just something I had been wondering about...the photos I wanted to take....didnt look into it enough...Clearly been done before.
@brumbe - I get that 'mandatory' is tongue in cheek :)
March 11th, 2012
@dieter not a frog on a tomato
March 11th, 2012
Good, some people are so very serious on here that I thought it was safer to mention. There was a list that janna made last year around May though. @monika64
March 11th, 2012
@brumbe Ha, I totally spaced that (pun intended.....ha.....ha.....? no...ok then) . It's almost a full moon though, I want to try and get a shot when it's a new moon and outside of town, I don't have an exact spot picked out yet....plus it's freaking cold out to sit out all night....remember my bitching on my bronc shot...and that was 15 minutes! I think that is going to be a summer thing.
March 11th, 2012
has to be a Frog on a Tomato.
March 11th, 2012
A good moon shot, but as mentioned previously on this thread it is about my wanting to learn the necessary skills to take one. I even dreamt about it last night!
March 11th, 2012
Haven't got the pineapple with glasses. Does a watermelon with goggles count?

March 11th, 2012
@kareen hahaha, pretty close!
March 12th, 2012
Lightning. I must capture lighting. And a long exposure of a jetty.
March 12th, 2012
Bucket list: NORTHERN LIGHTS!!
March 12th, 2012
@josephpadiernos -- I second that, but I've only ever seen them a couple times in my life!
March 13th, 2012
@gareauk1 at least you've seen them. I still haven't find my luck! haha
April 25th, 2012
I don't feel the need to drop fruit into seltzer, but I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to get a great panning shot....
April 28th, 2012
for me personally my current bucket-list is to visit each Wisconsin State Park, County Park, and eventually perhaps each city/town/village and take one decent shot to remember it...with the advent of Facebook's timeline and the map feature I am tagging each shot so one can look at my map of Wisconsin and see highlights of those places...if you would love to follow my adventure follow me here https://www.facebook.com/trevor.baird3

Taking some really good portraits would be wonderful. And getting good at shots of architecture.
