I have a Pentax KX also a Cannon G10 i want to upgrade the pentax, my local camera shop recommends either upgrade Pentax to K5 mark 2 or Sony . My original thoughts was a Cannon 60D. I am confused so thought 365 good guide me

I can't advise other than that I bought a used 40D and it does more than I am capable of. Of course, the glass is what is important and there is PLENTY of great glass around for it.

K5 II, no question -- unless you're prepared to hold out for the fabled Pentax full-frame that may, or may not, turn up sometime next year....

The k5 is a fine, fine bit of kit. The vII fixes the niggley low-light auto-focus problems and looks to be better still.

Were I considering upgrading my (fantastic) K5 and skipping to another brand (and taking the glass re-buying penalty. Boo), I'd probably go for a Nikon over Canon... The UX on Canon cameras makes me sad.
But I'm not! It's great!
And I'm gonna hold out for the FF in 2014. :fingerscrossed: :)

Either camera would be good. Personal preferance for me would the Sony. I presently shoot with the Sony A500 and if I were to upgrade right now, I would get the A77. In addition all the other great features of the Sony is that Steady Shot is in the camera not the lenses. This allows you use Minolta AF lenses and other brands (with Sony A mount) that do not have IS. The advantage is that these lenses cost less than those with IS.

I have a 60D and it suits me. I have been using the EOS system for 22 years and everything hangs together well - for example the remote controller I bought 22 years ago for my EOS10 film camera still works with my recently acquired 60D. Presumably the same applies with Pentax so if you have invested in their kit it may make sense to stay with them. However I agree with Dave - the lenses are more important than the camera body so whatever system you end up with spend as much on the lens as the body.

I shoot Canon digital, but Olympus and Pentax in film, and I hear very good things about that end of the pentax digital cameras. Canon 550D is my digital camera, which is superb too, and I keep seeing great deals in stores on the Nikon 5100. Loads to choose from.

The original K-5 (not K-5 II) is steeply discounted, and is still a fine camera (I have two!). If you can find one, buy it and save 300 pounds to put towards a new lens ;)
