Just wondered if anyone has any tips or tricks to recover a blown out sky in either Lightroom ( I had some success with the recover slider ) or Photoshop ?
If it is truly blown out white completely, no, especially if the image is a jpeg. If there is some detail lurking in one or other of the color channels, select the sky (adjustment brush in Lightroom, better as a layer in Photoshop), and pull the whites and the highlights all the way to the left and see what that gives you. If it is just blown in places, cloning out the bad pieces is a possibility, especially if only in spots.
@frankhymus thanks Frank it s a raw file - not blown out completely just some really bright spots that detract from the subject of the image ... i'll give your suggestions a go
You could always replace the sky with another sky. Good idea to have a couple of skies for this purpose. This is me saying what you should do. I don't have any skies right now. LOL
Try also using your curves tool in raw edit, and a gradial filter. I also if push comes to crunch will turn it to black and white to get some detail back
