Hello! I'm new to 365 and very excited to be here. By looking at all the images, I think I can really learn alot from all of you!
I really want to upgrade my kit lens to something better but I don't want to break the bank. Anyone out there have a favorite lens they can't live with out?
50mm f/1.4 will cost around $400, but f/1.8 is much cheaper for some reason. It's great for portraits, low-light pictures, and fast photography (e.g. sports). But if you like taking landscape pictures, it won't be as helpful.
I see this all the time.. why do you feel you need to upgrade? is something about your current lens physically stopping you from taking better photos? If not why not get a lens in a different length than whatever you have currently... have a 18-55 try a 55-300mm lens... that I personally would think would pay-off far more...
now if you are doing something very specific that you need a better lens... well no one else can answer that question for you... rather you need to know... what is limiting your photography... and what lens do those things better...
I have never bothered to really replace it... there is a great 16-45mm and a perfect 16-50mm that i could get instead... but I have other things to spend $400 or $1300 dollars on...
breath taking shot, Jordon! thank you so much for the advice. i think i do need to really evaluate my needs and figure out what i'm looking for. one of the things I want is that certain crisp quality i see in images taken with a better lens. i'm not sure if its the lens or if i just don't know what i'm doing just yet. (; i also want to take better images in low light settings.
yeah we need to know what type of photography you're interested in to help you determine what to 'upgrade' to. However the 50mm f/1.8 is an awesome starting point for adding to your lens collection. I have spent far more on different lenses, but still use it often. It's so cheap, and IMO not worth the extra few hundred pounds/dollars in getting the f/1.4 for a beginner.
A 50 is a necessary lens for low light, but if your outside have found a canon 28 135 is a great lens and are very affordable for the quality you get. Have lens costing triple with no better quality only draw back is not a great lens in low light conditions, only way to solve that problem is spending large amount of money.
I recently got the 50mm 1.8 & love it. I have used it for all of my 365 shots so far, by design on some, because it just happened to be what I had on on yesterdays. But I do still use my kit lens & my 70-300 zoom lens.
