pre-365 photographs.

February 13th, 2011
a few years back, I enjoyed a wonderful photographic experience which lasted for quite some time... I would like to share some of these photos here on my 365. Would back-dating these images compromise my current 365?

Am I restricted to just photos taken during this 365 day period? Or do I need to go ace to step outside the boundaries?

I just saw this after I posted a 2008 photo because it was 'haunting' me...not sure if its ok so I might have to read the rules again!
February 13th, 2011
@thereselc - I'm not sure of the rules either Therese, but I have noticed a few shots from pre-2010 appearing of late and I was wondering if there are any rules per se???
February 13th, 2011
Hey Jason I'm trying to find the 'rules' page and I can't find it...I'll keep looking. I'm almost certain I've seen it somewhere
February 13th, 2011
@thereselc - I do recall seeing something when I first signed up...

...and this http://365project.org/discuss/articles/3067/question-on-the-rules
Neither seem to say you can't - maybe an Ace membership is the go!

If there is a rule, I have been inadvertently breaking it since going ace! My 365 project does observe the dates but I have started two additional albums which I have clearly described as 'not 365' containing favourites from my other forums.

@thereselc - Thanks Therese, and thanks for your research :)

@wordpixman - good advice Arthur, and one I may have to seriously think about.

its acceptable to put "fill in" photos, if you absolutely do not take a photo on a certain day put in one that you love to fill in the spot, i've never seen anyone complain about it

but dont fill your entire 365 with old photos, thats not what this project is about :)
February 13th, 2011
Thanks Ria... my current plan is to avoid fillers if possible and the idea of going ace and using one of the albums for some old shot appeals... however, I get confused when people I follow post multiple shots on one day because of album's 2 and 3... I don't think I will follow that past.

I guess I will keep it simple and continue to post just one shot each day that I take it. The only people who lose out would be the 365 community as I can check out my old shots any moment I want eh?
February 13th, 2011
There are no rules, really. Except that it's your own photo, of course.

Go for it.
February 13th, 2011
also it's your own project do as you want ;)
February 13th, 2011
I've done the same thing on my 365, although the proper 365 started this year I thought it would be nice to pop up some pics taken before it started, no problems so far :D
February 13th, 2011
I've put some photos in 2010, and put a comment on my profile saying anything before Jan 1st 2011 is not part of my project, but are photos i wanted to share on the forums. I now realise I could have just put them in a Flickr album or something and shared the link... oh well XD
February 13th, 2011
Ditto what Annie said...post it!
February 13th, 2011
There's been such controversy on here about what you should and shouldn't post. Some people think it's not doing the project right if you don't post a photo you took that particular day. I feel like it's your project and you should do with it as you please. As others have said, the only "rule" is that the photo be taken by you. Personally, I love your photos and would be glad to see more of your stuff. :)
February 13th, 2011
Get an ace membership it is only $20.. you get 3 albums. Your main album could be for your current project and your 2nd and 3rd album could be for older pics.
February 13th, 2011
There's no rule police that are going to come arrest you if you post an old photo, LOL. People take this place too serious sometimes...
February 13th, 2011
I think that 365 seems to have a great self monitoring process. This is your project and you should not have to live up to the expectations of others. I have seen older pictures, but almost everyone seems to write in the comment section that it was a filler, it was taken in another year and they chose it today because of the specific reason. There are people that would not want you to enter it into the theme or competition sections because it was not taken this week.

I think the only rule necessary is to ensure that it is your own photo and not the work of someone else. Why not show a photo you are really proud of to compare with what you are doing now.
February 13th, 2011
Yup, no rules except that it is your own pic...post away!
February 13th, 2011
@bobfoto , no rules as to back dating photos.. you can go back as far as the site began I guess.. I use 2009 to post photos for the side comps and themes... as I normally already have posted my photo for the day..... the only thing you cant do is post to many days ahead... I think one to two days ahead is all it allows...
and yeah as Tammi said get an Ace membership if you feel that you would compromise your project by back dating your photos...
February 13th, 2011
You can do whatever you want, there`s nobody here to stop you.
But I preffere to stick to the basic idea of the project.A photo per day,and no fillers.
But I can`t wait to upgrade to Ace,later on,this year, then I`ll upload a bunch of other photos in two new albums.
February 13th, 2011
It's your project! I really would like to see them, so I say, on with the photo parade!!
February 14th, 2011
hey your pjhotos are so good I dont care what you post... its your diary of your work and the only one you should think about is you....
February 14th, 2011
why thank you everyone, I appreciate your thoughts on this... I feel like I have found a really cool community who are here for the sole purpose of the love of photography. I am a purist at heart and feel that the 365 should be all about that challenge of one photo a day for the year.

But I am torn by my want to remain loyal, and yet I have a new bunch of friends of whom I would like to share some older quality shots. And not everyone wants to check out flickr or photobucket it seems.

Plus I think it would be a challenge for myself to re-visit some of those old images???
