Following Albums v Following Photographers

January 6th, 2012
MY dilemma is this: If I dont log in for 3 or 4 days I have a huge list of peoples images in my 'Recent Activity' feed to catch up on.

MY suggestion is this: When you choose to follow a 365er you can then 'tick a box' to decide which of their albums you wish to follow. I think I can only manage to view and comment on peoples 'every day 365 shot's without being notified of their 'Extras' albums. I dont want this to sound dis-interested but this would allow me to comment more on everyones work.

How does everyone else feel?
Am I alone in this thought?
Is it a good (or cr@p) idea?
Ross? Can it be done?
Opinions?

man, i have the hardest time keeping up with everyone as is... miss so many great shots and then find them at some point days if not months after it's been posted. totally get where you're coming from.

Great idea. I get overwhelmed with the multiple uploads by some- one a day would work great for me.

i think u have a good point to be fair !

I like that idea! In my mind, the only one of mine that "counts" is my current year, but this year I started storing some of my extras in mutiple albums, more for my own benefit because I haven't figured out a better way to organize my favorites in Aperture. I'd be fine having my followers only focus on my main album. Although, some of my personal second choices have been more popular than my main posts! LOL.

I get where you are coming from, but sometimes there are such great photos in the extra albums and I would hate to miss great photos. I do not always use my third album but reserve it for one picture and a series of edits about once a month but may post all three at once because the impact makes a difference. I think if you do not want to look at one album, just do not click onto it when you go to their page.

I would much rather have my list of followers or people I am following organized by most recent postings so when I play my massive catch up on commenting I know who has posted most recently.

I agree with @brumbe Too many great shots in those pesky extra albums to miss out on! What's more annoying is getting three months worth of uploads from one person in one go!

One of the big advantages of ACE is that you get 3 albums and it raises money for the site. If you implement a system to block extra albums you thereby are hurting ACE. But I hear you loud and clear - it can be overwhelming to keep up. I personally like jumping around. But to each his own and if you don't like extra albums then don't open them.

Perhaps you could be more selective about the ones you comment on. If you miss some photos or some days, that seems like just part of how life goes.

I definitely understand how you feel. As my follower/following base continues to grow it is becoming increasingly difficult to comment on all those pictures. And when just 2 of those I'm following do massive uploads- forget it! I'm overwhelmed. I think it's more that I just need to pick and choose what to comment on. I think Michael Elliot is correct. Ace members pay for the privilege to post more than one shot and support the site, so blocking their extra posts would be hurting them. However, as I am beginning to discern, I have the ability to click on a picture or not. And I'm now only commenting on photos of those who really take the time to comment on mine. It's nice that I can give a person a view by clicking on their picture, but I don't have to spend thousands of minutes commenting on each and every one- especially those massive uploads.

Haven't looked at what others said yet but, I love this idea. I really want to contribute something meaningful to the people I follow. One thing that is overwhelming is the multitude of albums when so many people show more than one.

I can understand how you feel and sometimes it can be daunting to look at your home page and see all those photos from one person in multiple albums but at the same time as mentioned by others those other albums hold some great photos and it's a shame to miss out on them.

Somtimes (and I know it's a lot more work) I think it would be nice to have just one note to say a photo of so and so has been uploaded and if more than one has that you have a drop down menu to see those if you want. I always feel as though I miss some peoples photos out because I get overwhelmed with multiple photos by one person. I hope that all makes sense.

Some really great comments and opinions. I guess from this I have gathered that you may miss a real corker of an image from someone, but then surely those of you with that opinion will simpy tick all the boxes of the albums from those particular photographers. Also the photographer can always point out that "there are similar 'edits' or 'alternative views' in such and such an album" under their main daily image.

Another option maybe when you log in you have a choice of "Go to your highlighted (reduced) main 365 album Recent Feedback list "OR "Go to the complete FULL Recent Feedback list" But maybe thats over-complicating things, I dont know.

I think the main point is the ACE membership - would hate to deprive this great site of any well-deserved funds. Maybe this 'option' if it were introduced was a perk only available to those who are ACE members????
