Interpreting Exposure Time (as fraction of sec)

January 29th, 2012
Can anyone please help with interpreting the 'exposure time' as given for each photo in Picasa? I need to know how to take it from a decimal e.g. 0.769secs into a fraction of a second.

This is the only way I know how to find out what shutter speed was used using the recorded Metadata. If anyone knows an easier way, could you let me know. I'm baffled!

Thanks so much, this is making my head hurt!

Search Google for 'decimal to fraction chart' or something similar...
Don't know if this is exactly what you need, but it might get you close: http://www.tapwestpalm.com/fractchart.html

I assume your camera only has certain shutter speeds. Mine goes

4"
3"
2"
1.6"
1.3"
1"
1 / 1.3"
1 / 1.6"
1 / 2 "

and so on. You can just do the division and make your own chart of the actual number you'll see. In your case, 1 / 1.3 is exactly your 0.769.

For fast shutter speeds you can just multiply by 250. In the case of 0.008, multiply .008 times 250 and that's 2, so it's 2/250 or 1/125.
