Why are there so many Adobe Photoshop tutorials?

Why are there so many Photoshop tutorials out there and not many for general photo editing or other programs. Not everyone can afford Photoshop. Does anyone know? I use PS tutorials for my Paint Shop Pro editing and there is a photo editing book just released for Lightroom, another program that I cannot afford.

Are there any good sites for general photo editing that do not use Photoshop?

@simon0128 Thank you Simon. I have used that site to learn some techniques. This book uses Lightroom as its bases: http://www.digital-photography-school.com/postprocessing

@cirasj i think a lot of the ubiquitousness of the PS tutorials is due to the fact you can quite happily do most photo-related things in Photoshop Elements which is considerably cheaper. I follow a lot of the tutorials on TipSquirrel.com & gavtrain.com, but only have Elements 10 which is on sale for around £30 here (or it was at Xmas).

Try GIMP out. You can do a ton with it and it's set up very similarly to Photoshop, but it's free to download and use. There are also all kinds of tutorials for it all over the internet, and personally, I've even been able to use Photoshop tutorials for some things I've done with it. www.gimp.org

to answer your question without pointing you to somethine else....a lot of the PS tutorials are done by teachers. when I began art school, the whole Adobe suite (PS, Illustrator, Lightroom, etc) was part of my package. I have taken entire 6-week classes on each one of these programs, and the teachers do tutorials and put them online for us to look at for each assignment. :)

This is another photoshop tutorial but it is funny and you actually learn something while laughing at him. This guy is surly so you have to be surly to appreciate it!

The Adobe suite of products can also be bought at sometimes amazing prices if you can qualify for an educational discount. Check out their education store if you have a teacher or student in the family! http://www.adobe.com/content/dotcom/en/products/catalog/software._sl_id-contentfilter_sl_catalog_sl_software_sl_mostpopular.html?marketSegment=EDU

If you go on to Adobe's website, use chat with customer support. Most times you can get them to offer elements and light room at a discounted rate. When I first started editing I purchased elements for $100 then they offered light room for $100 instead of the $299 they originally wanted. After a few weeks they then sent the e-mail for Photoshop at $400 off the original price. Most people do not try to negotiate the price. But if you do is well worth your time. Hope this helps.
