Every so often I like to see how other urban photographers are taking shots. This guy has some great shots of Philadelphia but this album catches a lot more of everyday middle class urban life. What is interesting to me is that I have many of the same subjects and how different our photos turn out. This may also give you an idea of different street photography if you are nervous about taking pics of people.
That's good stuff - it reminds me of Shawn Hoke, one of my favorite photographers, who I follow on Flickr and the Twitter and such. I've described his stuff as "street without the people". :)
I like doing a lot of "urban details" shooting myself - I got interested in the idea after discovering Shawn's photography, as well as studying the "New Topographics" photographers and their work:
@beautifulthing I actually do a lot for work and do not always post it all on 365, but the batman is my neighbors garage door and I have yet to take a photo of it. That will be done this week.
@maaikel my pleasure, I like the uniqueness but non gritty feel to a lot of his photos. So many people think the city is full of grafitti, homeless and vacant buildings.
I want to be honest, so here goes. I think it is a nice little album of a photographers take on his home town. I looked at the album four times to see if I was missing something. I don't think I did. Some shots were nice. I was looking for a story in each or something to hold my attention... it didn't happen. Nice pictures that may have a special meaning for the maker. ...you asked!
Thanks for sharing, Paula! I think the photos are great and a perfect mixture/collection to show Philadelphia from outside and inside. This album catches a lot of everyday life in this city and is soooo interesting to see for someone like me who lives in Asia and is German :) Makes me want to jump into an airplane and fly to the US ...
