Seeing Double With New Camera

June 10th, 2012
So I picked up a new to me 4x5 to play with and I found sometime to use it. Turns out some of the 'free' film that came with it was exposed before... nothing adds to a portrait of the wife like some candles!?!?! Odd this, as they were blackside out... I thought everyone used darkside for unexposed and silver side for exposed... I guess not.... anyone else have any odd stories about 'new' cameras?

I feel your pain Jordan! I have quite a few stories concerning old "new" cameras, mostly surrounding light leaks and my struggles to fix them (though the majority of people seem to want me to leave well-enough alone!)

1952 Waltax issues (I have narrowed it down to a bad seal where the bellows attaches to the frame, just need to fix it now).

and

1977 Minolta XG-7 (leaked around the hinge, replaced the seal)

1966 Minolta 16 MG (still working on this issue, but I am pretty sure it stems from an ever-so-slightly deformed side panel).

And the list goes on :)

I took a roll of film at the zoo once, only to discover once processed that someone else had taken the same roll and taken a shot of a fancy dress party. It looked really funny but not out of place to see an image of my father dressed as the Devil standing alongside a Chimpanzee.... a real one.
