Show Me Refraction

posted June 13th, 2012
Crystal balls, water filled glasses, water drops all distort the image using refraction.

My latest experiments compare the crystal ball and the water filled wine glass.

Please add your own refraction photos to this discussion!

Mine is just a cell phone shot while out and about having a drink, but it was a delicious refraction. :)

Not a great shot with the crystal ball but:

And just a couple of water drops:

I put this together for the album cover challenge. The dots are refracted light.

The ends of these stamens are enclosed in water drops. They look cool!

@krissym Can you explain how you got the refraction in the drops on the flower photo? Thanks!
posted June 13th, 2012
@swguevin I used an old fish aquarium turned on its side and some glycerin to make the drops. I then just placed a flower inside the aquarium and lit the flower up and shot away. I had the old aquarium lying around, but you could pull out the glass from a photo frame to set up the shot similarily.
