Disney Fans; A Little Help Please!

October 3rd, 2012
I recently purchased a cool old camera which came with severely outdated, exposed film. I had the film developed and discovered an old photo from Disney I believe to have been taken during the first year it was opened (1972).

Please post your photos of Disney, especially Magic Kingdom, and double-especially a shot that closely mimics this one. I would REALLY like to find a modern-day comparison shot! Thanks!!

Here is one from my own files that is close, but not right on; 2009!

That would be at the original Disneyland, I believe.....

@welcometocarolworld DisneyWorld in Florida.

@grizzlysghost @lynnb Sorry, I thought Disney World opened later than 1971.......

@welcometocarolworld Disneyworld opened October 1, 1971. It was just the Magic Kingdom back then, which is what I believe the original photo shows. That looks like "Main Street." At the far left, you can just about make out the side of Cinderella's Castle.

Yeah, that's Disney World all right. Main Street has gotten a few face lifts since then and the buildings look a tad different, but nt much.

I went through the pictures that I took on our last trip to Disney World over Christmas 2010, and this was the closest picture I could find to compare to your photograph:

@grizzlysghost That's awesome. My mother took me to Disney in '72. She had a little black camera in her lap when we were photographed on the glass bottom boat. It had a little handle on it. I always wondered what happened to that camera. My uncle, grandmother, and cousin all went together. No other photos came out?

@tskipper Wow, that is so cool you got to go right after opening! I still have a roll of negatives to scan, but the images are VERY dim! I will have to see if I can recover any of them!

@indyost Wow, that is really close! Lots more people there nowadays!

Never been there, but found this online :-) http://www.startedbyamouse.com/graphics/steve/mk_main_street.jpg

Wow that's so cool.

The unbearably huge crowd is missing from your photo which makes it even more aweseome!

Seriously awesome!!

ha ha you big bunch of gays. I know a travel agent who got invited down there when it was all a swamp and they admitted how they'd bought all the land under different names so it didn't get found out. Wasn't Walt a big fascist?

This one is somewhat similar, I have a bunch of mainstreet USA but not on 365

and this one....

@chewyteeth Hmmm, I don't see how that's very helpful.

I've only been to WDW once back in 1991, but I worked at Disneyland from 1988 to 1998. I love photographing the Park. So many different options! Here's one of my favorites.

If you like it, take a look at my Disney album

I guess you know that this is Disney World and not Disneyland? The photo looks really old. Disneyland in Anaheim opened in 1955. I visited in '62.

WALT, MICKY AND ME

CASTLE AT THE MAGIC KINGDON

Aaron, these were taken in 2006, so things have probable changed some even since then. You can see the castle and the one building in the background of the pic where I am seated wtih Walt and Mickey.

Wow! That shot is so cool! Never been to Disney World! ...soon!

I just ran across this shot in my archives. It’s from 2003 although it feels like last year! Pardon the digital date stamp. I wasn’t into photography yet back then and thought it was cool that a date could appear in a picture. Duh!

@lisjam1 Wow, this is very close! Thanks! Cool retro date stamp too, there is an app for that now! ;-)

@grizzlysghost God, I’m old enough to be retro now. I remember how excited I was to get a 4 megapixel camera.
