Wedding Advice

October 19th, 2012
I'm shooting my first wedding tomorrow (EEK!) and am just now getting around to figuring out what I'm going to wear. I know it's a stupid sounding question, but for you ladies who shoot weddings, how dressy do you typically go? I was going to wear a dress, but then I was concerned about having to be careful how I moved when taking pictures (what if I needed to get real low, etc.) so I thought about dress pants, but I don't want to be too dressed down. Any advice? If it helps any, it's an outdoor wedding. Thanks in advance! :)

I would wear a business suit; comfy pants, simple blouse and a jacket. I think you should be dressed up and professional for this.

I agree with Trina, business suit. I would not wear a dress just because it could be awkward to maneuver in for you as the photographer. I did a non formal wedding last week and was thankful I wore black dress pants. I had a lot of stairs to climb and had to lug my own equipment around…a dress would have been a pain. I also chose NOT to wear heals, but dressy flats…smart decision given all the stairs to climb. Good Luck!

Something simple, but polished and wear shoes that look nice, but are comfortable and have some tread. Nothing worse than slipping and falling when you are outside taking photo's. Been there and done that - no fun, but a real ice breaker!

When I go along to help my hubbie as 2nd camera at Weddings, I always wear smart trousers/jacket, and like others have said, comfy flats! Its exhausting being on your feet all day - definately think smart but comfortable! Good luck with it.

be comfortable - I wore a nice pair of linen trousers and a smart blouse - it was a nightmare on the day - I suddenly realised (whilst I was taking photos of the bride getting ready) that the top was rather billowy at the front every time I leant down, would've been a great potential of giving everyone a right eyeful...thankfully the bride had some tit-tape that i secured everything with and went about my business without embarrasment!

I'm interested. Is this a one off or something that you are planning to make regular?

@ayearinthelifeof I was originally asked to do this wedding months ago and I turned it down, telling the bride that I had never done one before, then she came back to me and asked again a few months ago. In other words, I didn't seek this out. That being said, it IS something that I would like to do more of in the future. Not necessarily advertising for weddings just yet though. We'll see how this one goes ;)

@istacy1011 Cool, well let us all know how it went. Have you been on any courses or owte?

@sparkle LOL tit-tape?!?!? Is that the official name :-)
October 19th, 2012
@andycoleborn LOL - if i were to ask any of my female friends to borrow their fashion tape they'd look at me weird, tit tape therefore must be official. To be fair, it's just suped up double sided tape that costs three times as much as the stuff in WHSmith!!

@ayearinthelifeof I definitely will! What is owte?
October 19th, 2012
@istacy1011 haha sorry, owte is anything.

@ayearinthelifeof Oh, lol! No, I'm self-taught although I do do a lot of research and studying to improve my work.

My niece's wedding photographer wore khaki pants and a crisp white shirt and comfy shoes. She looked nice and professional.

Here's her website:
