School project about photography

October 22nd, 2012
I have to make a project at school and I've chosen photograhy as a subject.
Except for its history and some tips about photography, or maybe some interesting facts, what other things shall I have in my project?
Thanks

Try researching the way aesthetic elements effect emotions, i.e. colors, symmetry, balance, tension. How do photographers use these elements to appeal to the viewer and get the attention in the place they want it? :)

Maybe you could go into the excess of people trying to sell their photos, now that once you have the equipment and software, it's a fairly cheap business venture. I sincerely think that this part of it is way out of control, with people trying to get their name out there on FB and stuff. This, I think, is a big part of current state/history of photography. I think it makes people with real talent become overlooked because of the quantity but lack of quality out there.

You can always go into examples of how shutter speed and f- stop effect a picture.... like freezing motion, compared to freezing motion. Depth of field and shallow.

I love "Boulevard du Temple", taken by Louis Daguerre. It is the first known picture of a person.

Some photographers talk about trying to capture light. Monet Was famous for his painting of light. This could be something you could compare.

I say keep to just a couple of good ideas and explore them well... don't try and put to much in and confuse yourself. Photography is so broad, choose something you are interested in learning more about.

There are some great ideas, and I do like the idea of looking at an assortment of the most famous journalistic images ever taken. Good luck with it, it sounds like the kids are in for a real treat :)

Why not as part of your project do a mini 365 (depending how long you have you could do a week a month whatever. Then talk about the style and inspiration for each shot giving info on technique settings etc you could share inspirational shots that influenced you and ones you aspire to as well.Just another idea thats all!
