Trouble viewing photos large!

November 10th, 2012
Hi! I'm just wondering... does anyone else have this problem:
When I try to view a photo large, the scroll bar down the side moves, but the photo remains stagnant, so the bottom end is always cut off!?!?
Any one got any suggestions??? Is this a common problem?

I have that problem using any browser other than IE. If I use Internet Explorer it works fine, but other browsers appear broken. It's been broken since I started the project some 10 months ago, so I doubt it will be fixed anytime soon.

@monkeykid @kannafoot

I have this problem whether using ie or chrome... And have had since day 1

@monkeykid - If it's the same problem i have what i find works for me (well kind of i think the quality of the image suffers) is to decrease the size of the picture. So CMD and - (the minus symbol on your keyboard) or CMD and + to increase the size. hth - Doesn't always give results though

(i'm using a MAC so whatever the equivalent for the CMD key is on windows)

@kannafoot @northy @bazanderson

Thanks!!! I see I'm not alone, it's an old problem!!! I use Mozilla Firefox browser...

Thanks Baz for that idea! I use Linux (Fedora) and I just found that holding control and scrolling out with my mouse makes the picture shrink enough to fit in my screen!!! Thanks!!!

@monkeykid
Using Firefox:
Click "View Large"
Right Click on image and select "View Image"
Click to make it full size and you can scroll up and down.

For a PC hold down the CRTL key while pressing + to make the pic bigger, or - to make the pic smaller.

I always click the view large icon and then press F11 seems to fit perfect for me.

@mikehamm @hollandcrew

Thanks Guys!!! I tried both of your methods... and the both work!!!
Well, now I'm glad I started this thread, because I now have several methods I can use to see the images large!!! Hopefully other will find this useful as well... it seems like a common problem!

Thanks all of you! I had the same problem and happy to have a solution now :)
November 10th, 2012
@hollandcrew Thank you, that works just right!

@hollandcrew I just tried the "view large icon" plus F11 method using Firefox. It works with a photo that was taken horizontally, but it does not work with a photo shot vertically. In IE, the vertical shot is sized properly without needing to use F11. In Firefox, the bottom of the photo is still cut off.

F11 works for me
November 10th, 2012
@kannafoot Not sure abt FF but the F11 is just the full screen option for IE. You can still adjust with the CTRL & + - keys also, but that changes your home view also so you have to adjust back.
November 10th, 2012
@hollandcrew (F11 has the same function in Firefox.) I'm not sure folks understand the issue. The image does in fact show full screen. The problem is that in any browser other than IE, a vertical image is cutoff. You lose the lower third of it. So pressing F11 still only shows the top 2/3 of the image. The same with CTRL & + -. It resizes only the portion of the image on the screen. The bottom 1/3 (for a vertical image) is still lost.

Note that horizontal images are fine.

I figure I might as well tag Ross for his take on it. @Scrivna

@kannafoot Not a clue maybe the guru has an answer. lol Good Luck!
November 10th, 2012
@hollandcrew I'm interested in seeing his response. Looking at the source, I think the issue is the way way the image is being scaled in the Javascript used for the slideshow.open function, but I'm not positive. Javascript can be a royal pain between different browsers, so it's no surprise to me that it's working in IE and not in Firefox. Anyway, let's see what Ross comes up with!

@bazanderson Check the response by @iqscotland....it works for macs too.
November 10th, 2012
@kannafoot I use firefox on a mac...I right click the image (in the view large screen) and click on 'view image', then when the image comes back up, click on it and you can scroll for the full view. f11 has never worked for me. I think this will also work on pc's.

I thought it was just some weird glitch in my computer. At least I have company in my misery. LOL
I use Firefox and @iqscotland advice worked perfectly. Thanks, and thanks to Therese also for bringing it up.

@lynnb That does work in Firefox. A few extra steps than are needed in IE, but at least it works! Thanks for finding that method.

@kannafoot @northy @bazanderson @iqscotland @mikehamm @hollandcrew @shweetheart @lesleyallen @lynnb @pasadenarose

Thanks guys! It's seems like a common problem around here.
Thanks for all your suggestions how to get around... I'm sure several of us will find it useful!!! (I certainly have!) Thanks so much!!! Therese

@iqscotland Awesome, glad you posted this 2 years ago. And glad I searched the forum thread for this problem. Still a problem as of 9/20/2014 but the work around worked just fine in Firefox.
